Four Food Network superstars feel the pressure in round two as they’re challenged to create an appetizer featuring an off-putting canned product. Next, the chefs experience a rude awakening when they find a gamey meat and breakfast cereal in the entrée round basket. In a heated third round, the two finalists must pull off eye-catching desserts featuring a time-honored candy and a root vegetable in hopes of advancing to the finale.

Meal[]

Appetizer[]

Ingredients: Teething Biscuits, Hungarian Hot Peppers, Raspberries, Canned Haggis

Starting the appetizer course is Duff's Haggis Patty with Balsamic Reduction. The judges liked his raspberry and goat cheese coulis but felt that the balsamic raspberry sauce is irrelevant. Apart from that, his haggis was cooked inconsistently.

Next is Claire's Haggis Meatball with Raspberry Sauce, that was liked by the judges for it's creativity and presentation.

Anne's Grilled Flatbread with Haggis Salad also excelled in the tasting, despite suffering her eye injury from the hot grease during the cook.

Robert took a traditional approach with the haggis and pair it with potatoes along with the other basket ingredients. The judges liked his Haggis Cake with Potato Salad. The contestants earn praise for the use of the haggis in their appetizers.

Clearly, three of his fellow competitors' dishes had won over the judges. So, it was no surprise that Chef Duff finds himself at the bottom of the pack and is chopped in the first round, due to technical issues in his dish.

Entrée[]

Ingredients: Rack of Venison, Dulse, Gooseberry Preserves, Fruit Ring Cereal

Claire took her time in the pantry to prep her dish (Venison with Polenta and Grilled Romaine), but the fact that she decided to cook her venison whole during the round caused her meat to be blue, forcing her to return it into the pan with only one minute left which ultimately cost her to finish one of her plates, for Alex: the meat and the gooseberry sauce. Marcus also noted her venison didn't get a chance to rest, although she is able to cook it perfectly apart from her lettuce, sauce and polenta.

Anne delivered with her Venison Chop with Mostarda on Smashed Potatoes, earning points overall despite Marcus' critique of failing to discard the silver skin on her venison.

Robert dropped his carrot element for his entrée in the cook, due to his station's counter space. Despite this, he is able to plate his Stuffed Venison on Potatoes with Wine Sauce which earned praised yet again from the judges.

Every round, there was no negative feedback on their dishes so far in this competition. But unfortunately for Chef Claire, she failed to finished Alex's plate which sent Claire home, leaving the "Worst Cooks in America" hosts and "Iron Chef" competitors Anne and Robert to cook off in the dessert round.

Dessert[]

Ingredients: Ladyfingers, Baby Fennel, Almond Paste, Root Beer Jelly Beans

Anne made Almond Ladyfingers with Fennel Caramel and although Marcus thought her dish was too small for the dessert, they applauded her for the different textures of every element in her plate.

The judges thought Robert also showed creativity with his Chocolate Pot de Créme with Ladyfinger Sandwich, however, the fennel (one of the basket ingredients) didn't feature heavily enough.

Along with the irregular ratio of his dish in the appetizer round, Chef Robert is beaten once again by Anne, who advanced as the second Chopped Champion to compete for the finale.

Notes[]

  • Anne Burrell and Robert Irvine had worked together on Worst Cooks in America and competed against each other on Iron Chef America, bringing a familiar rivalry to this episode.
    • Both of them would later compete in the fourth season of The Next Iron Chef against All Stars Tournament judges Alex Guarnaschelli and Marcus Samuelsson, alongside other All Stars competitors from the following episodes: Beau MacMillan (episode 3) and Chopped judge Geoffrey Zakarian (episode 4) who later won the title on December 18, 2011.
  • Besides Burrell and Irvine previously competing in Iron Chef America, Duff Goldman was a challenger and cook against Michael Symon in the eighth season.
